Chris Collis
Town & Local Care Care Coordinator.
I started with Town & Local Care in February 2015 as a carer in the Huddersfield area. I really enjoyed the time I spent as a full time carer but was ready to progress within the company due to the transferable skills that I had gained.
I had spoken with my line manager and the Registered Manager to let them know I was keen to progress within the company and I asked to take part in any training that would help with my career in care. (I had never worked in the care sector before this role, I had always worked in retail until now).
I worked very hard as a carer and tried to be as flexible as possible and help out wherever I could. I showed initiative and work towards the company procedures and values.
After a few months of working for Town & Local Care a vacancy opened in the office as a Coordinator/Assessment & Review Officer which I applied for and was successful. I received an induction plan when I came into the office and was able to job shadow my colleagues and manager to gain the relevant knowledge and skills. I am now coordinator for the Halifax 1 area and enjoy coming to work every day as no day is ever the same.
If I was going to offer any advice for people in a similar position to myself I would say:
- Work hard and have good time keeping and attendance
- Show willing and try to help out where you can
- Listen and learn from your peers and management.
