WarrenCare Head of Care/Registered Manager.
“I started working in the community in WarrenCare and really loved it as I knew I was making a difference through helping vulnerable people maintain their independence. I also enjoyed developing relationships with my colleagues in the community, some of who are still employed by us and I still have good relationships with them. Working in the community enabled me to increase my knowledge of service user’s needs, the types of services we provide and the areas in which we delivered our services.
Whilst I was a care worker, an opportunity arose to work in the office and I jumped at this chance as it would allow me to understand another aspect of working in care and it was also a natural step for me in my career that would provide different challenges and experiences so that I could develop my skills further. I completed a variety of training courses in the office and shadowed my colleagues and senior managers in order to understand different responsibilities, approaches and legislative requirements.
From this role I then progressed to a Service Manager (similar to our Deputy Manager role today) that involved me attending reviews with social workers, conducting assessments of service users and managing a team of coordinators. This gave me further understanding of the local authority referral process and eligibility criteria. Within this role I developed strong relationships with our service users and their families as I was responsible for dealing with any concerns that may have been raised at reviews. It was therefore vital that I developed good relations with social worker teams so that we could work in partnership and obtain the best course of action for our service users. The role also allowed me to have involvement in all investigations and gain an understanding of HR processes.
Following this I decided to apply for the Registered Manager position for WarrenCare and undertook this in October 2012. I am incredibly proud of the service we deliver which is evident from our recent CQC inspection in which we achieved a rating of Good. I still believe that we make a positive difference to people’s lives which is why I could not think of working in another industry as working in care is extremely rewarding.
I have recently been promoted to the Head of Care for the North West in which I undertake a variety of strategic duties in order to aid best practice across all areas within our Group. This role is in addition to remaining as the Registered Manager for WarrenCare, a role that I take great pride in”.
